shining lights

Eerily quiet for a Sunday morning, Mum and I strolled into Lights in the Attic for a late brunch. A bright open space, with a centrepiece of an old school espresso machine breaking up on the room, we settled on the cushioned window seats. Loving the blue theme – from the coffee machine and menus to the plates and funky lab water bottles.
Love my coffee – even though I’m trying to cut down on the weekends – and how pretty is this latte art?
An unusual DIY menu – I was more a fan of the specials written up on the blackboard, including this breakfast pizza. Some large slices of roti acted as a base for blue cheese, bacon and fried eggs topped with pomegranate and rocket. With blue cheese being such a bold flavour, it paired incredibly well with the breakfast items. I would’ve preferred a thicker base to retain the crispiness as the toppings were a bit heavy. A generous serve of sweet potato fries accompanied the pizza, with a sweet maple dressing. Not sure whether the dressing was for the pizza or the chips, but it was sweet and delicious all the same.
I’d opted for the wild forest – a pretty dish of chilli scrambled eggs on toast, with a side of bacon. Topped with unusual ingredients of pork crackling and pork floss for some texture and crunch.
Described on the menu as potato mushrooms, I’d mistaken this for potatoes and mushrooms separately. Instead, I got these intricate and adorable little ‘mushrooms’ made of potato stalks topped with potato skin caps.
Lights in the Attic offers some interesting breakfast choices in a beautiful environment – although the concrete floor and walls were a bit chilly in the winter. Best part is – no weekend crowds!
